“Sensitivity is vitality” – The idea behind launching Spicaspir, a media platform that supports the well-being of entrepreneurs

It’s a pleasure to meet you via media.I’m the editor-in-chief of Spicaspir.
I launched this media with the goal of “improving the well-being of business managers/entrepreneurs and empowering them.” I myself am an entrepreneur running an advertising agency in Tokyo, and have worked with many business managers and entrepreneurs as clients. For many years, I have felt that “business managers/entrepreneurs are lonely” and that “well-being is an irreplaceable business asset for business managers/entrepreneurs, yet it is too often overlooked.” After more than 10 years as CEO, I wanted to grow as an entrepreneur by starting my own business rather than just working as an agency. This led me to the idea of creating a “place to disseminate information” as a solution to the issues I had been concerned about for many years.

The name and concept of Spicaspir

Now that the purpose of the media has been decided, the next thing to decide is the name of the media.
Intuitively, I thought a word with an image similar to “Spring” would be good.
I have a strong attachment to this word. That’s because, as a Japanese person, I was very surprised when I first learned that the English word “Spring” has various meanings, such as “spring(season),” “spring,(machine)” and “fountain.” However, after learning the English root, and thinking of “Spring” as having the image of “Wellspring,” spring, and fountain all made sense, and I thought to myself how fascinating English is.
I really wanted to incorporate this feeling of “Wellspring” into the name.

But just naming it “Spring” is just too unimaginative.
When I searched for words that start with “sp,” the first thing that came to mind was “Spica.”
I’m a Virgo, and I live my life by Virgo values, so much so that I could be called the Virgo of Virgos.
It occurred to me that it would be interesting to create a media brand built on values, like the brand “Virgin” did. I decided to incorporate “Spica” into the name.

However, “Spica” alone lacks newness and originality as a brand. I needed to add another attribute and make it a coined name, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to acquire a domain.
So I started considering another attribute.
What is the most important concept I want to convey with this media? I decided to incorporate that into the name. That is, “Sensitivity is vitality.

Many business owners and managers have HSP tendencies, and many, like Steve Jobs when he was forced out of Apple and Elon Musk when he was forced out of PayPal, end up in a startup after going through tough experiences, as if fate was rushing them to start one. I’m no exception. These people, who are more sensitive than anyone else, were hurt both physically and mentally by their tough experiences. However, it’s true that it was precisely because they turned their sensitivity into a springboard for growth that they were able to create new startups and carve out new lives.

I decided to incorporate my concept of “sensitivity is vitality” into the name, and the first word that came to mind was the English root word “spir.” It means life or breath, and its derivatives, such as inspire and aspire, are highly relevant to business owners and entrepreneurs. Adding “spir” to “Spica” gave me Spicaspir. The look and feel of the word are perfect. I could even get a domain for it. The name was decided.

Spicaspir’s Media Policy

In order to achieve my media objective of “enhancing the well-being of managers/entrepreneurs and empowering them,” Spicaspir wants to be a media that “stimulates and satisfies the five senses of managers/entrepreneurs.” For this reason, I have stuck to the category of “5.”

I plan to develop content in five categories: ①Mindset/Wellbeing, ②Zen, ③Japanese food, ④logos, and ⑤Kawaii Charge.

1. Mindset/Wellbeing:

This is the foundational category of Spicaspir. I will introduce specific mindsets for improving physical and mental well-being, such as self-care and rituals for entrepreneurs, in the context of Japanese culture and lifestyle.

2. Zen:

Thanks to the influence of Jobs, “Zen” and “Mindfulness” have become essential knowledge for Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, but it is also true that much of this is “Zen interpreted for the West.” Spicaspir’s editor-in-chief, who was born in Japan and has a background in Japanese culture, will post about “real Zen.”

3. Japanese food:

The idea that “food is medicine” is essential for well-being. Spicaspir’s editor-in-chief, a self-proclaimed foodie, will post real information about Japanese food, which has become widely known as “washoku.”

4. Logos

“In the beginning was the Word.” -The great wisdom of our predecessors can solve the problems of business managers and entrepreneurs and provide relief to their souls. I will post books and famous quotes that serve as a great light.

5. Kawaii Charge:

Japan’s “kawaii” culture has become widely known around the world. Japanese people have loved cute things since ancient times, but in fact, “cute things” are full of vitality. I will post content that will help you appreciate cute things and recharge your energy.

Above, I have written about my thoughts on launching Spicaspir.
From next time onwards, I will be posting actual posts, so please look forward to them!
